In my last semester at VCU, our History of Advertising gave us the assignment to write about someone who left an impact on Advertising. I sort of had an idea of where to start, like the easy ones, Ogilvy, Burnett, or Bernbach. However, David Carson's work caught my attention right away. He was the first picture I clicked on and I spent hours looking through his portfolio. He became a graphic designer later on in his life and does his work grid free. I do some graphic design whenever I get into the mood, but now after seeing his work, I'm pretty motivated to look into some more tutorials and learn new skills. His work reminds me a lot of Basquiat and requires the same amount of concentration, focus, and attention to detail to really get it. I will take his philosophy into my own creations and hopefully see if it can spill into my other works. Just have to keep creating and not put a limit on any idea.
