Show Your Work

Updated: Feb 12, 2019

This book taught me not to be afraid to show my working process. Usually I like to wait until I finished the product and be able to step back and adore it. After reading this book I learned that it is not a bad idea to show the beginning stages of the process. From sketches, the bad ideas, the mistakes and everything in between. I already like collaborating with different people, but the many ideas groups create together are something out of this world and there are so many ideas that do not get used, that it can easily inspire someone else, just have to remember to always give credit. The book also said that showing all the work you did in the past will make you feel like you came a long way and feel more proud. This has inspired me to tailor my website and make it more of a place for me to always come to and see how far I have come. I am horrible at keeping track of stuff, so if I make my website connected to my social media then something will always be here to breath life into it. I linked my Pinterest to my website to give a look into my mind, but those pictures really don't mean that much to the viewer as it does to me. So I should probably go in depth on how the colors, memories, and all emotions I get from pin page, which will come in due time. The book told us to share our secrets and to out teach our competition. I personally do not know how I feel about that, being in Advertisement, there is already a lot of competition. The next chapter goes and tells us not to be Human spam, which is also very important because we have to pick and chose what we show and not just posting stuff...just to post. Another huge point this book touched on is being able to take a punch. Taking that initiative to expose your work makes you very vulnerable and you must be prepared to take criticism. This book was very beneficial and gave me a better outlook on my craft.
